The doctoral Program engages students in a systematic analysis of the functioning of markets and industries in a global context, with a specific focus on comparative institutional studies and competition policy, as well as the impact of macroeconomic policy on productivity and growth.

The Program also focuses on processes of institutional and regulatory reforms through political influences, market liberalizations, and instances of supra-national market integration.

The interaction between theory and practice is one of the main features of the Program. Analytical models and techniques are challenged through the systematic investigation of real world phenomena and case studies.

Graduates are qualified to analyze, design, and manage Programs within economic institutions, regulatory agencies, and multinational companies.

The deadline for applications is December 7th, 2007.

Available Student Positions: The Program will accept a maximum of 15 students.

Tuition Exemptions: PhD students are exempt from tuition and fees.

Annual Scholarship: The scholarship amounts are +/- 10.560,00 Euros gross, corresponding to +/- 1.760,00 Euros gross paid every two months. Scholarships are awarded for three years and are confirmed yearly. Scholarships benefit from tax breaks.

INPDAP Scholarship: Some applicants may be eligible for INPDAP (Istituto Nazionale di Previdenza per i Dipendenti dell'Amministrazione Pubblica) scholarships. To meet the criteria:

• One must be the child or orphan of INPDAP members or pensioners, unemployed or temporary employed, or INPDAP members with temporary employment.
• One must specify and certify according the condition of point 1. Applicants who don't declare the above-mentioned requirements can't be considered.

Lodging: Those eligible are ranked applicants who list on September 28th, 2007 a permanent address farther than 30 km driving distance from IMT Lucca.

Board, Laptop, and Other Facilities PhD students:

• Benefit from free meals (lunch and dinner) 7 days a week.
• Have at their disposal a personal laptop computer.
• Have access to the library facilities.
• Be covered by insurance against accidents and injuries which may occur while they are carrying out their PhD activities.
• Have access to other various facilities.
• Foreign PhD students will benefit from Italian language courses.
